Laxar is a fish-farming company which produces high-quality salmon for the world’s most demanding customers, both in Europe and in the USA. The company operates three fish fry farming stations in the Ölfus region in South Iceland. It also operates a large and technically advanced marine fish farming activity in Reydarfjördur, East-Iceland, with a production permit for up to 16,000 metric tons per year. Búlandstindur, a salmon slaughterhouse in Djúpivogur, East-Iceland is co-operated by Laxar and other business associates. The production capacity of the slaughterhouse is 125 tons per day. Laxar has offices in Kópavogur in the capital area and Eskifjördur, East-Iceland.
The aim of the company is to develop a leading salmon farming operation where knowledge and technology are at the forefront and the company is financially strong enough to tackle challenges. The company strongly emphasizes environmental issues and corporate social responsibility.

According to The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the global community will need to double its food production by year 2050 in order to meet the world’s population increase. At the moment, over 50% of the world’s fish products come from fish farming.
Iceland offers one of the world’s most ideal conditions for salmon farming in the sea because of the ideal temperature of the sea in fjords around the island. Salmon farming in Iceland is committed to uphold environmental, economic and sociological conditions as a guiding light in the future development of sustainable salmon farming, which has already proved to be a foundation for sociological structuring in Iceland.
With increased fish consumption we shoulder environmental responsibility and reduce our carbon footprint. The major carbon dioxide emission related to salmon farming is the production of fishmeal and therefore, salmon farming on its own is the most environmentally friendly method for protein production across all the food industry.

Laxar has invested in top quality feeding barges, marine cages and other fish farming equipment for the last few years. The marine cages from Aqualine are high quality pens custom-designed for Icelandic weather conditions; they prevent release and ensure optimal working conditions.
